As DJs we are constantly downloading music and at some point you may notice that your laptop is running a little bit slow due to lack of hard drive space. I have a Macbook with upgraded storage of about a TB of space and every so often I notice that things slow down even though I am running 8gb of RAM. I knew there was a better way of clearing up space besides manually checking the sizing of individual files which would take days or weeks to clean things up and I’d rather be spending that time setting up my playlists, making fresh edits to upload on HeavyHits.com and preparing my set for the weekend. I knew there was a better way. I did some searching and found a free program called OmniDiskSweeper for Mac (DL LINK) which processes everything on my computer and shows me in a handy window where all the storage is being used up as you can see here:

With this I can see where I have files that I don’t necessarily need to have on my laptop at all times and I can put those on a backup if I don’t want to delete them. The program takes about 10-15 minutes to analyze everything and I’m sure that depends on how much space you have but it’s relatively quick. I spent about an hour and cleared up almost 100gb of space and now my laptop is running back at normal speeds.

ATTN! Please be advised! I would not recommend deleting anything from “Private” “System” or “Library” sections unless you know exactly how the the inner workings of how your laptop function.
