5 Ways To Stay Sane As a Working DJ
Keeping up a healthy lifestyle as a DJ can be DIFFICULT. Here are five ways you can keep your sets fire while staying healthy.
- Sleeping – Yes, this can be very difficult because as DJ’s, our hours vary. To be honest, some of us don’t have the luxury of a normal sleep schedule. Sleep when you can. Try to get 7-8 hours a day. You’ll make smarter decisions when you’re alert…trust me.
- Exercise – This is a must. We basically live in a toxic environment with all the partying that is around us LOL. Sweat out those toxins and open up those pores. Working out has also been scientifically proven to relieve stress. If you’re not stressed, your mind is clear, which will help you focus on your sets.
- Eating Healthy – This is really hard. Like really hard. Its really easy to hit the Mcdonalds drive-through after a set but I urge you, don’t do that. Spend your money on groceries. Buy healthy snacks and take them with you. Get little things like fruits, veggies, and nuts. Not only are these nutritious, but they’ll also give you the natural energy your body needs. Also, stay away from energy drinks.
- Reading – This might seem strange, but reading self-help books is really one of the best things you can do for yourself. It opens your mind to different things and situations. You won’t take things nearly as personal and you’ll feel happier with yourself. This will translate into better sets.
- Having Non-Industry Friends – This is huge. You need to have friends in the industry…its an essiential part of being a DJ. But if you’ve been in the industry for a while, then you know everyone has private agendas and trying to decipher friend from foe can be challenging. Having friends outside the industry is a breath of fresh air. It allows you to vent and get an unbiased opinion on situations from people who genuinely care about you.
Hopefully, there’s something that you can pull from this to help your sets get better than they already are! Thanks for reading, drop me a follow on IG if you’d like!
